ASPM vs. finding-closure review

ASPM helps security teams decide what to investigate and fix. Finding-closure review asks whether the evidence supports closing a specific finding. GoSentrix assists that step and works alongside ASPM rather than replacing it.

What stays in ASPM

  • Bringing findings together from many scanners.
  • Reducing noise and prioritizing what to fix first.
  • Managing remediation work and tracking its status.
  • Risk scores, finding state and ticket history.

GoSentrix does not replace any of this.

What the closure-review step adds

  • Gathers the evidence for a proposed closure: the finding, the pull request, the CI run, the deployment record and the ticket.
  • Assesses whether that evidence supports the closure.
  • Names missing, stale or conflicting evidence, the next action, and who can supply it.
  • Prepares a case your designated reviewer inspects and decides, and that a later reviewer or assessor can inspect.

Where they overlap

Both deal with remediation. ASPM tracks remediation status and finding history across many findings. Closure review looks at the evidence behind one proposed closure. ASPM records, such as the finding and its remediation status, can be part of that evidence.

Many ASPM and scanner platforms can also mark a finding resolved when a later scan no longer detects it. That is useful evidence, and for a routine finding it may be enough. A rescan does not show which build is running in production, whether the scan covered the affected component, or why an exception was accepted. Closure review assesses those remaining questions for the closures your team may have to explain.

Both can involve policy. ASPM may apply policy for triage or thresholds. Closure review checks the evidence against the closure criteria your team uses. The difference is the question each one answers: which findings matter and where remediation stands, or whether the evidence supports calling one finding closed.

How they work together

ASPM helps decide what to fix. Engineering ships the fix through code, CI and deployment. Closure review checks whether the evidence supports calling the finding closed, and your reviewer decides.

GoSentrix assists the closure-review step. Keep your ASPM for posture and prioritization, and use GoSentrix when a closure needs a case your reviewer can inspect.

What GoSentrix does not do

  • GoSentrix does not replace ASPM, scanners, or runtime tools.
  • GoSentrix does not produce findings of its own.
  • GoSentrix does not run its own tests or scans.
  • GoSentrix does not block merges or releases.
  • GoSentrix does not make the closure decision. Your designated reviewer does.
  • GoSentrix does not set the organization's risk appetite.
  • GoSentrix does not guarantee incident prevention or cost reduction.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoSentrix an ASPM alternative?

No. GoSentrix works alongside ASPM. ASPM helps teams decide what to investigate and fix. GoSentrix assesses whether the evidence supports closing a specific finding, names what is missing, and prepares the case for your designated reviewer.

Do I need ASPM before I use GoSentrix?

Not necessarily. GoSentrix assesses evidence that existing systems already produce, and ASPM can be one of them. Scanners, code and pull requests, CI, deployment records and tickets also hold closure evidence.

When should I use both?

Use ASPM to manage your application security posture and prioritize remediation work. Add finding-closure review when closing serious findings takes repeated evidence work, or when a reviewer, assessor or customer may later ask why a finding was closed.

Does this cover release decisions?

No. GoSentrix’s current product is finding-closure review. Over time, the same approach could extend to release-level decisions. That is not part of the current product.

Keep your ASPM. Add closure review.
